International superstar Akshay Kumar has again shown the world that he has the biggest heart in entertainment by offering to help Mumbai’s iconic multiplex, Gaiety and Galaxy, which has been hit hard by the coronavirus outbreak.

Also known as G7, the theatre has long been a part of the city’s culture with many flocking to watch some of Bollywood’s biggest blockbusters. However, since the spread of Covid-19, the theatre has had to close and has been starved of essential funds in the past month, which has resulted in its uncertain future.

However, amidst the chaos, Akshay Kumar has contacted the owner of the theatre, Manoj Desai, to see if he needs any help during this time, especially with paying employees who are at risk from losing their jobs if the virus continues to spread.

Speaking of Akshay Kumar’s generous offer, Manoj Desai said: “I got a call from Akshay ji. He offered to provide financial assistance if the scenario continues. It was kind of him to offer help, but we should find a way to sustain ourselves. We have managed to collect enough funds to pay the salaries for this month, but the theatre shutdown will have long-term ramifications. Our focus is to ensure we don’t trim staff or resort to pay cuts.”

This latest move by Akshay Kumar will not be seen as a surprise by many, with the Sooryavanshi star conducting many noble acts in recent weeks to help those most affected by the coronavirus.

As well as this latest donation, he has also donated Rs 25 crore (£2.5 million) to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s PM CARES FUND, taken to social media to tell his 39M followers to stay indoors and show his support for essential service providers risking their lives on the frontline. Akshay Kumar also brought together Bollywood’s biggest stars to produce the song #MuskurayegaIndia to help raise even more awareness and funds in the fight against the virus.
