Aamir Khan ventured into production with ‘Lagaan’ 20 years ago. Since then, there’s been no looking back for this actor / filmmaker. Known as Mr Perfectionist in Bollywood, Aamir Khan’s ‘Lagaan’ today completed 20 years as the film released on June 15th 2001. It clashed with the Sunny Deol and Ameesha Patel-starrer ‘Gadar: Ek Prem Katha’ but went on to be a superhit. Even though the film was well over three hours in length, it found enough love from critics as well as the audiences thanks to its cricket-based theme set in the British era. India is a country where cricket is taken as religion and cricketers are worshipped. As per a few unverified estimates, ‘Lagaan’ was made at a budget of Rs 25 crore in 2001 and went on to gross Rs 65 crore at the box office. It was also nominated for an Academy Award in the Best Foreign Film Category. The team is reuniting for a virtual conversation to be streamed on Netflix’s youtube channel.
