It looks like finally all the controversy and hype and hoopla surrounding ‘Udta Punjab’ seems to have helped its producers Anurag Kashyap and Ekta Kapoor. ‘Udta Punjab’ garnered a little over Rs 10 crore on the first day of its release. On day 2, viz Saturday, the domestic box office collections earned more, standing at around Rs 11.25 crore. While the Sunday figures are still awaited, the two days collection for ‘Udta Punjab’ stands at a little over Rs 21 crore net. ‘Udta Punjab’, directed by Abhishek Chaubey, got mired with cuts suggested by the Censor Board vis-a-vis Pahlaj Nihalani, and later the film’s leak over the Internet before its release took the world by storm. Many celebrities from the cinema world came to the rescue of the film and also to show the support and solidarity as an industry.
