The Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt starrer ‘Gully Boy’ was India’s official entry for The Academy Awards (Oscars) this year. However, in the shortlist, the musical drama has been dropped from the nominations list for the International Feature Film category. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences selected the best 10 films from 91 entries. Priyanka Chopra was using her clout in Hollywood and had hosted a screening of the film in Los Angeles. It was announced in September that ‘Gully Boy’ would be India’s official entry for the Oscars but the happiness was short lived as the film didn’t make it to the next round. Directed by Zoya Akhtar, ‘Gully Boy’ was inspired by the lives of Indian street rappers Divine and Naezy.
