Kiran Rao’s heartwarming film ‘Laapataa Ladies’ (Lost Ladies), which was India’s official submission for the Best Foreign Language Film category at the 2025 Oscars has not made the final shortlist. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences recently revealed the contenders in ten categories with ‘Laapataa Ladies’ not among them. Instead, the live-action short film ‘Anuja’ has earned a spot on the prestigious list. Produced by Aamir Khan Productions, ‘Laapataa Ladies’ tells the story of two brides whose destinies are intertwined when they are accidentally swapped on a train. “‘Laapataa Ladies’ did not make it to the Academy Awards shortlist this year, and we are of course disappointed, but equally we are immensely grateful for the incredible support and belief we’ve received throughout this journey,” said a joint statement from Aamir Khan Productions, Jio Studios and Kindling Productions. The film stars Nitanshi Goel, Pratibha Ranta, Ravi Kishan, Sparsh Shrivastava and Chhaya Kadam.
