In 2024, Riteish Deshmukh unveiled his second venture as a Marathi filmmaker with ‘Raja Shivaji’ coming on the heels of his successful debut ‘Ved’. The film is noteworthy as it will be released in both Marathi and Hindi marking a significant effort in the cinematic landscape. And the news has only got bigger with Abhishek Bachchan, Sanjay Dutt and Fardeen Khan reportedly being seen in the roles of Mughal characters, while Riteish Deshmukh himself portraying the legendary Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. Last year, on the occasion of Shivaji Jayanti (2024), Riteish officially announced the project by sharing the film’s poster on Twitter, where he expressed: “Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj is not just a name but an emotion. On the auspicious occasion of his birth anniversary, I join you in paying homage to the great son of the soil. May his legacy continue to inspire us for generations to come. We seek your blessings as we begin our new journey. Jai Shivrai!” ‘Raja Shivaji’ is directed by Riteish Deshmukh and produced by Jyoti Deshpande and Genelia Deshmukh.
