Bollywood star Preity Zinta has responded to accusations regarding an Rs 18 crore loan under her name purportedly being dismissed by the struggling New India Cooperative Bank Ltd. The situation gained traction after a Moneylife report uncovered significant financial mismanagement and alleged corruption within the bank, prompting the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) to take decisive action against its operations. Addressing the claims, Preity’s legal team provided a statement to the portal, in which she clarified, “More than 12 years ago, I had an overdraft facility with the New India Cooperative Bank. More than 10 years ago, I repaid in full the entire dues in respect of this overdraft facility, and the account stands closed.” The report suggested that the loan was “written off” without adhering to proper recovery protocols.
