Arijit Singh has formally drawn the curtain on his playback singing career, a move that has stunned the music world. The celebrated vocalist whose voice defined an entire era of Bollywood with songs like ‘Tum Hi Ho’, ‘Channa Mereya’ and ‘Kesariya’, announced his retirement through Instagram. In his heartfelt message, he wrote, “Hello, happy New Year to all. I want to thank you all for the love you’ve given me throughout these years as listeners. I am happy to share that I will no longer be taking on new playback singing assignments. I am calling it off. It has been a wonderful journey.” With those words, Singh signalled the end of a journey that began in Jiaganj, West Bengal, where he was born in 1987, and blossomed after his breakthrough in 2013 with ‘Tum Hi Ho’ from ‘Aashiqui 2’. Over the years, his voice became inseparable from the emotional core of Hindi cinema, shaping unforgettable tracks such as ‘Agar Tum Saath Ho’, ‘Raabta’, ‘Tujhe Kitna Chahne Lage’, ‘Satranga’ and ‘Tainu Khabar Nahi’.
