Karan Johar who heads Dharma Collab Artists Agency offered a blunt take on the challenges of managing actors. In conversation with Sarthak Ahuja, he reflected on the constant churn within the industry, noting that performers rarely stay committed to one agency, “Every two years, people are shifting from one agency to another because they are so insecure that they feel we are time-bound. Nobody is loyal in this business; actors just keep hopping and skipping. So you put two years of your life into a talent, and they suddenly move elsewhere and then they don’t like it there and they want to come back to you. This is a vicious circle.” Johar emphasized that the traditional system of commissions has lost its viability, which is why agencies are increasingly turning to equity-based collaborations with their clients.
