Prakash Jha has revealed that his celebrated drama ‘Raajneeti’ will soon have a continuation. The original film, which arrived in 2010 with Ranbir Kapoor and Katrina Kaif among its stars, explored power and ambition through a contemporary lens. Speaking to the media outlet Screen, Jha was asked whether mythology might ever become the central theme of his work. His response was telling: “I constantly draw from the epics and from our mythologies, be it the characters, the incidents, the drama, everything. Even in the second part of ‘Raajneeti’, which is currently in pre-production and I’m actively working upon, a lot has been drawn from those sources,” without confirming the cast. The first instalment had already reimagined the Mahabharata in modern political terms, with a cast that included Ajay Devgn, Manoj Bajpayee, Naseeruddin Shah, Nana Patekar, Arjun Rampal and Sarah Thompson apart from Ranbir and Katrina. Its success at the box office confirmed that audiences were ready for such a bold retelling.
