At a time when the world dynamics are changing rapidly, Aamir Khan reflected on the deep cultural parallels between India and China particularly in how audiences engage with cinema. His films, especially ‘Dangal’ have resonated powerfully with Chinese viewers grossing an impressive $192 million in China alone. “The cultural flavour in China, the emotions of the people there – they’re very similar to the emotions of Indians,” Khan shared during a panel discussion. “The Chinese audience reacts in a very similar way to content the way that Indians do. That’s what my experience was when I was watching a number of my films on the screen in China and the audience was reacting to ‘Dangal’ – there was absolutely no difference between an Indian audience reacting to the film and a Chinese audience. Almost identical was the reaction,” he added. Mr Perfectionist emphasised that fostering Indo-Chinese collaborations in cinema could be mutually beneficial, “I think that whether it’s creatively, whether it’s on an emotional level, or whether it’s even from a business perspective, it is only a win-win, if we collaborate with China.” His remarks come at a time when global entertainment industries are increasingly interconnected, and Khan’s vision for cross-border storytelling could pave the way for groundbreaking cinematic partnerships.
