Every election season in Mumbai brings its own moments of drama and humanity. And this year was no different. Among the handful of well-known faces who arrived early to participate in the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) polls was Akshay Kumar. As he stepped out of the polling station, a scene unfolded that quickly spread across social media: a woman approached him with a plea for help explaining that her father was drowning in debt. Holding a slip of paper, she said, “‘Papa bahut bade karze mein hai, unko please bahar nikalo’ (My father is in huge debt; please help him get out of it).” Kumar listened, directed her toward his team and gently stopped her when she attempted to touch his feet before moving to his car. Later, addressing reporters he shifted focus back to civic duty. “This is the day the remote control is in our hands. I appeal to all Mumbaikars to vote. It’s our turn – we all should step out and vote to elect the right person. If you want to be the real hero of Mumbai then instead of the lip service, come out and vote,” he said, underscoring the importance of participation in the city’s democratic process.
