Alia Bhatt’s Cannes Film Festival debut wasn’t just a fashion statement – it was a celebration of cinema’s evolving landscape. While her Gucci saree-inspired ensemble turned heads, it was her admiration for Malayalam cinema that truly resonated. In an interview with Brut India, the ‘Jigra’ star expressed deep appreciation for Fahadh Faasil calling him a phenomenal actor and praising his riveting performance in the 2024 blockbuster ‘Aavesham’, “Fahadh Faasil is someone I really admire; his work. He is such a fantastic actor. ‘Aavesham’ was one of my favourite films and he was just unreal. I would love to collaborate with him someday.”
Beyond individual talent, Alia emphasised the growing interconnectedness of Indian cinema. Reflecting on the impact of global streaming platforms, she noted how the pandemic reinforced the idea that regional boundaries are fading. “The one thing that pandemic taught me is that we’re actually one unit, and with now content sitting in one platform – the global platform that everyone gets to view – is a huge exposure. You can watch any kind of content,” she remarked.
Her presence at Cannes was not just about cinematic discourse but also about redefining fashion narratives. Styled by Rhea Kapoor, Alia’s ensemble marked Gucci’s first-ever interpretation of the Indian saree, seamlessly blending tradition with contemporary haute couture.
