The controversy surrounding Diljit Dosanjh’s film ‘Satluj’ intensified following its swift removal from a streaming platform merely two days into its online availability. The production had previously faced significant obstacles from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), which demanded 127 modifications, prompting the creators to pursue a digital distribution strategy instead. Filmmaker Anurag Kashyap recently made a startling revelation during a conversation with comedian Kunal Kamra, asserting that Prasoon Joshi, who previously chaired the CBFC, voiced concerns about the Honey Trehan project without having reviewed it. According to Kashyap, the director personally informed him of this situation: “Honey says Prasoon Joshi had objections with the film. He hadn’t seen the film. I know, in other cases also, the chairman doesn’t see the film.” This claim points to a troubling pattern within the certification body’s decision-making procedures. Joshi’s tenure as head of the Central Board of Film Certification concluded in May 2026, at which point Shashi Shekhar Vempati assumed the leadership position. The project originally conceived under the title ‘Punjab ’95’, has found itself caught in regulatory complications spanning nearly three years with no resolution in sight.
