Asha Bhosle’s voice carried across decades, shaping the soundscape of Indian cinema and leaving behind a treasury of unforgettable melodies. At 92, her journey came to an end, with her son Anand Bhosle announcing on Sunday, “She is no more. Her last rites will be held at Shivaji Park in Mumbai.” She was cremated with state honors today. The singer had been admitted to Breach Candy Hospital in Mumbai on April 11, following what her granddaughter Zanai Bhosle described on X as “extreme exhaustion and a chest infection”. Known for timeless songs including ‘Piya Tu Ab To Aaja’, ‘Kajra Mohabbat Wala’, ‘Rangeela Re’ and ‘Dil Cheez Kya Hai’ among many others, she was approaching her 93rd birthday on September 8th. Over an extraordinary career that spanned 80 years, she recorded close to 12,000 songs in 20 languages, a legacy that continues to resonate far beyond her lifetime.
