After opening to a lukewarm response, ‘Chhapaak’ couldn’t hold up in the box office race against ‘Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior’. Thanks to controversies erupting just before the film’s release and subsequent calls for boycott, ‘Chhapaak’ managed Rs 32.48 crore at the box office in 11 days. On the other hand, ‘Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior’ demolished many kingdoms to emerge a winner. The Ajay Devgn starrer collected Rs 175.62 crore at the ticket windows after releasing on January 10, 2020. While ‘Chhapaak’ is Deepika Padukone’s home production, ‘Tanhaji’ is backed by Ajay Devgn. Though it is only fair to note here that both the films were mounted on a different scale. ‘Chhapaak’ rides solely on Deepika’s shoulders and is made on a much smaller budget, compared to ‘Tanhaji’, which also stars Saif Ali Khan and Kajol.
