The passing of Asha Bhosle at 92 has left the music world reflecting on her extraordinary journey. Her final artistic gesture came in the form of a collaboration with the British virtual band Gorillaz on their ninth studio album ‘The Mountain’. The track, ‘The Shadowy Light’, released on February 27, 2026, became the centrepiece of her last Instagram post. Earlier today, Damon Albarn, co creator and composer for Gorillaz, shared a deeply personal tribute on Instagram: “Asha Bhosle was someone I had admired from afar for many years. Her voice was my gateway to the marvellous world of Bollywood. I met her twice in Mumbai and was entranced by her grace and poise at the age of 91. The memory of sitting cross-legged, playing RD Burman’s harmonium while she sang, will stay with me forever. I send my deepest condolences to her lovely family. Asha, you had the voice of an angel. We love you. –Damon Albarn.” Gorillaz, known for blending genres and cultures, directed their creative energy toward India while recording ‘The Mountain’, capturing sounds and influences from Mumbai, Delhi, Rajasthan and Varanasi.
