In a cinematic landscape often dominated by fantasy and fiction, ‘Haq’ dares to revisit a pivotal moment in India’s legal history. Loosely based on the landmark 1985 Shah Bano case, the film casts Emraan Hashmi as Mohd Ahmed Khan and Yami Gautam as Shah Bano Begum, breathing life into a courtroom battle that once shook the nation. Directed by Suparn S Varma, ‘Haq’ opened in theatres on November 7th and has been gradually gaining momentum. The film’s earnings reflect a growing interest: Rs 1.75 crore on day one, Rs 3.35 crore on the second and Rs 3.75 crore on day three, bringing its total to Rs 8.85 crore. Albeit small, with the Rs 10 crore milestone within reach, ‘Haq’ is proving that socially charged narratives still resonate with audiences when told with conviction.
