The cinematic world lost a pioneering filmmaker when Sanjay Gupta passed away on October 30, in his late 50s. His death resulted from injuries sustained during an unfortunate fall in his kitchen late at night. Despite his wife and two sons being home, the severity of his condition went unnoticed initially. Across his prolific decades-long career, Gupta became celebrated for his directorial work in action-driven cinema, helming acclaimed titles like ‘Kaante’, ‘Shootout At Lokhandwala’, and ‘Kaabil’ among others. His most notable professional partnership was with veteran actor Sanjay Dutt, collaborating on multiple projects from 2002 to 2007, including ‘Musafir’ and ‘Zinda’. In his personal life, Gupta was married to Anu Lekhi; the couple divorced before eventually remarrying. Many celebs paid tribute to Gupta.
Sanjay Dutt:
Gupts, my brother. I still cannot believe that you are gone. We have shared so much together, so many memories and so many years of friendship. You have always been family to me, and that will never change. I will miss you, our conversations and all the times we spent together. We were just discussing ‘Kaante 2’ recently. I will make ‘Kaante 2’ your dream, in memory of you, my brother. I will do everything for this dream of yours to come true. Love you forever and always. Life will not be the same without you, brother. May God bless your soul.
Anil Kapoor:
Deeply saddened and heartbroken by Sanjay’s passing. We shared a special bond, both personally and through the films we worked on together. There was always an understanding between us that I truly cherished. Sanjay had his own unique voice and vision as a filmmaker, and the memories of working with him will always remain close to my heart. Going to miss you, Sanjay. Rest in peace, my friend.
Hansal Mehta:
I am shell-shocked. Sanjay was perhaps the only boss I had in this industry. Now the boss is gone. Can’t still come to terms with it. Besides our work relationship, he was more of a friend and somebody who came into my life at a time when I was totally down in the dumps. So many memories and so much to say. But I’m just too shocked to react.
Amitabh Bachchan:
A friend, a colleague, an artist and the one who worshipped art has gone away at such a young age! It is beyond comprehension.
