Following its successful run as an OTT series, ‘Mirzapur: The Movie’ is preparing for its theatrical debut on September 4th 2026. The film underwent the CBFC’s certification process and received an A rating, though not without editorial interventions. Spanning 3 hours and 17 minutes, the final cut reflects numerous adjustments demanded by the board. The modifications encompassed linguistic refinements – four instances of profanity were silenced and six vulgar expressions were substituted – as well as narrative tweaks. Specific dialogues underwent revision, including the removal of “Galey se lag gar”; additionally, objectionable terminology in the first act was replaced by ‘kamar’, while the second act saw ‘lanth’ (meaning fool) altered. A caste-related reference was similarly excised per the board’s requirements. Beyond textual changes, approximately 35 seconds of intimate sequences were trimmed from the film. Bringing the project to completion are director Gurmmeet Singh and screenwriter Puneet Krishna with Excel Entertainment bankrolling the venture through producers Ritesh Sidhwani and Farhan Akhtar. The transition from digital to big screen unfolds this week.
