‘Oppenheimer’ is winning praise and minting millions across the world, but it has faced some controversy in India. After the film’s debut in theatres last Friday, the Indian audience was quick to note that Cillian Murphy recited verses from the Hindu sacred book Bhagavad Gita during an intimate scene. Taking offense against the same, Union Minister of Information and Broadcasting, Anurag Thakur, demanded ‘absolute accountability’ from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) for allowing the scene. Anurag Thakur wants the specific scene to be deleted from ‘Oppenheimer’. It remains to be seen how the CBFC responds to this controversy though. Directed by Christopher Nolan, ‘Oppenheimer’ features Cillian in the title role along with Emily Blunt, Matt Damon and Robert Downey Jr in pivotal roles.
