The path to release for Vishal Bhardwaj’s ‘O’Romeo’ has cleared a significant hurdle. Featuring Shahid Kapoor and Triptii Dimri, the film faced a legal challenge from Sanober Shaikh the daughter of the late Hussain Ustara who argued that the story mirrored her father’s life. On Saturday, a Mumbai civil court dismissed her request to halt the premiere noting that she had previously sought financial compensation from the filmmakers. This made the demand for an immediate stay “impermissible in the eye of law.” Judge HC Shende concluded that no grounds for injunction were established. Shaikh’s plea alleged that her father had been “portrayed as a gangster”, while the defense countered that the project is a “pure work of fiction” and includes explicit disclaimers.
