Actor Rajpal Yadav has secured temporary freedom after the Delhi High Court approved his request for interim bail in the long-running cheque case involving Rs 9 crore. He had been in Tihar jail for more than a week but is now expected to leave custody later today. The court, led by Justice Swarana Kanta Sharma allowed bail until March 18 on the condition that Yadav submit a bond of 1 lakh rupees and provide a guarantor. Earlier in the proceedings, the court directed him to deposit Rs 1.5 crore by the afternoon deadline. Once the complainant’s representatives confirmed that the payment had been made to their company accounts, the court granted him relief. The next hearing will determine whether Yadav clears the remaining dues, which could help him avoid serving a longer sentence. The dispute traces back to funds borrowed for his film ‘Ata Pata Laapata’, a project that left him entangled in financial and legal troubles for more than a decade.
