Ranbir Kapoor’s ‘Animal’ which received considerable backlash from audiences for its depiction of violence and toxic masculinity has stirred up conversation again, this time at the 55th International Film Festival of India (IFFI) in Goa. During a panel discussion on responsible filmmaking, Ranbir responded to the criticism by saying, “I completely agree with your opinion. As actors, this is our responsibility to bring movies that make a positive impact on society.” He also stressed the need for creativity and exploration, noting, “As actors, it’s important for me to dabble in different genres and characters, and play varied roles.” While the film has faced strong disapproval from figures like Javed Akhtar and Konkona Sen who criticised its content it has also garnered praise from filmmakers such as Karan Johar and Anurag Kashyap for its bold and stylish approach without focusing too much on the moral underpinnings.
