Shabana Azmi met with a car accident over the weekend while she was travelling from Pune to Mumbai. The veteran actress was there for a function marking husband Javed Akhtar’s 75th birthday. Akhtar was in another car and escaped the crash. Azmi’s vehicle rammed into a truck on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway about 2 kilometres before the Khalapur Toll Plaza. She was gravely injured and was admitted to the MGM Hospital in Navi Mumbai. She sustained injuries near the eye and on the chin, and her neck was hit hard with the impact. Azmi was later shifted to Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital in Andheri in Mumbai. Although in ICU, she is said to be recovering well without any surgeries.
