Rewriting the rules of film accessibility, Aamir Khan’s latest venture, ‘Sitaare Zameen Par’, is bypassing the usual digital parade and heading straight to YouTube’s movies-on-demand platform – launching globally right after its theatrical window closes. With no other digital release planned, this move isn’t just disruptive, it’s a radical act of inclusion. The film premieres exclusively on YouTube starting 1 August 2025.

As Aamir reflects on this leap, he shares, “For the past 15 years, I have been struggling with the challenge of how to reach audiences who do not have geographical access to theatres, or those who are unable to make it to theatres for various reasons. Finally, the time for the perfect storm has come. With internet penetration in India having grown dramatically and growing everyday, and with YouTube being on most devices, we can finally reach vast sections of people here, and a significant part of the world. My dream is that cinema should reach everyone at an affordable price. I want people to have the ease of watching films when they want, where they want. If this idea works, creative voices can tell different stories breaking geographical and other barriers. This will also be a great opportunity for younger creative minds entering the field of cinema. If this idea works, then I see it as a win-win for all.”

The family-focused drama, anchored by Aamir and Genelia Deshmukh, shines with a cast that includes ten actors with special needs – bringing a real sense of representation to the screen. With localized pricing set at ₹100 in India and tailored to 38 international markets like the US, UK, Australia, Singapore and Spain, ‘Sitaare Zameen Par’ is primed to transcend borders and connect with audiences far and wide. Its journey has already resonated powerfully, raking in over ₹250 crore globally and affirming that storytelling knows no bounds.
