In the 10-episode story, four women and self-proclaimed Churails brought together by fate open a covert detective agency to expose cheating husbands from Karachi’s elite. As their operations expand, they come to be saviours of abused, harassed and mistreated women. The gripping and fast-paced storyline covers myriad issues such as child abuse, sexism, domination of class and race.
The series encourages a dialogue on the stigmas associated with strong and empowered women, while advocating for their civil liberties and equality, and breaking ideas usually associated with the word ‘Churails’.
Zindagi, launched earlier in India as a channel had built a legacy of for itself for presenting stories that are strong, powerful yet relatable. Now launched on ZEE5 Global, the content brand’s original series promise to take this legacy forward. The show comes with a larger purpose of encouraging dialogue on the stigmas associated with strong and empowered women.
Archana Anand, Chief Business Officer, ZEE5 Global said, “As a global platform, ZEE5 brings together a massive curation of unique and relatable stories, stories that resonate with audiences, all onto a single global platform. Churails has received much acclaim across global markets, and we are confident that it will be a huge success and strike a deep chord with our viewers across the U.S. too”.
Director Asim Abbasi says “I’m thrilled that Churails will now be available to US audiences on ZEE5. A story about strong women, embarking on a journey of self-discovery, empowerment and sisterhood, I believe Churails is a timely show with pertinent themes that will resonate with audiences in this market as it has done in other countries globally.”
Shailja Kejriwal, Chief Creative Officer – Special Projects, Zee Entertainment Enterprises Ltd. says, “With Churails, we wanted women’s voices to be heard. We steered away from stereotyping fierce women for their strength or patronizing them for their insecurities. The web series is evocative and effective at the same time. We’re extremely proud to offer the series to our audiences in the US and hope that they feel empowered watching it.”
Churails will stream on ZEE5 in the U.S. from 16th July.
