A lot of literary experts have returned their prestigious Sahitya Akademi awards, in protest against the increasing hostility in the country. Prominent Bollywood filmmaker, Mahesh Bhatt stands in support of these prominent writers. He said, “It is understandable that there is a sizeable lot which feels that they have reasons to protest, so this gesture of returning the award. I completely endorse and support their views.” Giving a different perspective, Bhatt added, “There is an alternate view, that perhaps by remaining in the fold and not indulging in this gesture, they may have been able to drive home their point of discomfort more effectively.”
