Several Bollywood filmmakers have not had great success while remaking yesteryear’s films, however industry veteran Javed Akhtar is all for remakes. He said, “There is no harm in remaking films, Martin Scorsese won the Oscar for direction, for a film that was a remake. There are a few films which have been remade very well. There are a few stories which have become dated, should be modernised. Like there is ‘Devdas’. If that film would not have got a remake then there would not be Dilip Kumar’s ‘Devdas’.” However, Javed Akhtar also adds that films like ‘Gone With The Wind’ and ‘The Godfather’ are classics which should not be attempted.
