Sixteen years have passed since ‘Kaminey’ burst onto the big screen and Priyanka Chopra marked the occasion with heartfelt reflections on social media. Rather than just reminiscing, she spotlighted the film’s deep impact on her journey as an actor. Her tribute included praise for Shahid Kapoor’s riveting double performance and a glimpse into how the project came to life. Alongside stills from the film, she shared: “I was filming for ‘Dostana’ in Miami, Florida. One cool evening, after we wrapped the shoot, I saw a missed call from Vishal Bhardwaj. I remember him telling me the story, and I said, ‘Well, she has approximately eight scenes.’ He said, ‘With us working, it will end up being so much more.’ He promised he would make something incredible for me after this in appreciation for doing the part.” That promise materialized years later in ‘7 Khoon Maaf’. For Priyanka, ‘Kaminey’ wasn’t just another role – it was a “turning point”. Released on August 14, 2009, the film plunged audiences into the gritty chaos of Mumbai’s criminal underbelly, weaving a tale of twin brothers – one with a stutter, the other with a lisp – locked in a complex rivalry. A box office triumph and a cinematic milestone, ‘Kaminey’ still resonates. “Shahid Kapoor was sensational in his double role. Those were the times. 16 years ago!” she wrote, capturing the nostalgia of an era that changed everything.
