In a legal move echoing recent victories by Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Abhishek Bachchan, filmmaker Karan Johar has stepped into the courtroom spotlight demanding protection over his identity in the digital age. On September 15th 2025, the Delhi High Court heard Johar’s petition targeting the rampant misuse of his name, image and likeness across online platforms. Justice Manmeet PS Arora acknowledged the gravity of the concerns – including fake profiles, domain hijacking and obscenity – and announced that a formal ruling would be delivered on September 17th. Johar’s plea calls for a clampdown on websites profiting from unauthorized merchandise like mugs and T-shirts bearing his image. His legal team led by senior advocate Rajshekhar Rao, emphasized the fundamental right to safeguard one’s persona: “I have a right to ensure that no one unauthorizedly uses my persona, face or voice.” As digital impersonation and commercial exploitation grow more sophisticated, KJo’s case could set a precedent for celebrity rights in India’s evolving media landscape.
