2018 marked a heartbreaking moment for Indian cinema when Sridevi passed away at 54, leaving admirers and colleagues stunned by the suddenness of her departure. In a candid conversation with Raj Shamani, her elder daughter Janhvi Kapoor revealed how the loss reshaped her life and deepened her understanding of her mother, “I try to escape my mind, my inner turmoil. The feelings that I haven’t dealt with, the trauma that I haven’t dealt with. The biggest trauma was losing my mom, especially the way I did, in front of the whole world and dealing with that journey.” Janhvi reflected on how the absence of Sridevi altered the rhythm of her family, saying, “I cannot get over the pain of losing my mom. There is no one like her. I miss how funny she was. I miss who she made me, my sister and my father. I didn’t lose one parent, I lost my father also that day, the version of him that existed when she was around.” She admitted that her reliance on her mother had been immense, and that the tragedy forced her to grow up faster than she ever imagined.
