His reasoning was straightforward: “Gauri, Reena and Kiran did not change their religions when they married me, as we had civil marriages.” When asked about Spratt’s background, he provided additional context: “Gauri is not a Hindu, she is Christian, and not even a practising Christian at that.” To illustrate the multicultural fabric of his household, he elaborated further during the same discussion: “Ours is a very inclusive family.” He proceeded to enumerate relatives as evidence: “Both my sisters are married to Hindus, and my daughter too is married to a Hindu.
