Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, before playing the character of Dalbir Kaur in Sarbjit biopic, had apparently come across a petition for his release. The actress says, “A petition was going around to some of us who belonged to the public platform, one of them being me. I too was amongst the few to whom the petition came, possibly Dalbirji was trying every possible thing to bring people’s attention to work at his release.” And when Omung Kumar approached the actress for the film, she knew that it had to be a divine calling. Aishwarya says, “This is some kind of divine calling but it was already a yes. I was definitely going to come on board because somehow his life and mine had crossed. Unfortunately he came to India in a coffin and I had to pay my ode and respects.”
