The Emraan Hashmi-led ‘Awarapan 2’ has emerged as a major box office success story defying the legacy of its predecessor from 2007, which struggled commercially upon release. The franchise has experienced a dramatic reversal in fortune, with the sequel commanding impressive numbers at the domestic and international markets. Globally, the film has accumulated Rs 153.59 crore, while its domestic net tally stands at Rs 107.50 crore – a remarkable achievement especially considering this represents Hashmi’s first solo theatrical venture to breach the coveted Rs 100 crore threshold in nearly two decades.
The movie’s momentum began strongly, surpassing the Rs 100 crore benchmark within five days of release. However, a noticeable dip materialised on Day 6 when Wednesday collections plummeted to Rs 6.75 crore from 11,071 screens, marking the film’s weakest daily performance thus far. The gross domestic collection reached Rs 128.29 crore, with audience interest declining as reflected in the theatre
occupancy rate of 16.72 percent on that particular day.
Helmed by director Nitin Kakkar and bankrolled by producers Vishesh Bhatt and Mukesh Bhatt through Vishesh Films, the project boasts an ensemble cast featuring Disha Patani, Puran Gabbi and Shabana Azmi alongside Hashmi.
