John Abraham’s upcoming film, ‘Satyameva Jayate’, faced opposition from the Shia community for a self-flagellation scene. Members of the Telangana State Bharatiya Janata Party had objected to the whip used by John to conduct self-flagellation, also protesting against the makers for wrongly depicting ‘matam’ (self-flagellation) and denigrating its rituals. “We weren’t aware of these details so we decided to remove that sequence, to eliminate any room for objection,” says producer Nikkhil Advani. The makers altered the scenes and received a happy nod from the community leaders. ‘Satyameva Jayate’, directed by Milap Milan Zaveri, is slated to release on August 15.
