The National Commission for Women (NCW) called Nora Fatehi to address concerns about the song ‘Sarke Chunar’, which critics claimed demeaned women. On May 7th, she met the Commission and clarified that her actions were never meant to offend. Following the meeting, she explained that she had already submitted a written apology saying, “It was just a situation that I was put in and there was no intention to offend anybody, but of course, I have to be responsible as an artiste. I definitely apologize. We have given it in writing. They have been so kind and helpful. It’s really important for us to give back to the society. So I decided that we should sponsor a few orphan girls’ education. That is the goal after this matter.” The Commission had earlier acted after media reports accused the song of vulgarity. Sanjay Dutt, who also appeared in the track had previously issued a similar apology.
