Akshay Kumar has changed the fate of the box office with ‘Sooryavanshi’. Releasing on the auspicious occasion of Diwali, this cop drama raked in Rs 26 crore at the ticket windows on Friday in India. The movie recorded a drop in numbers on Saturday with only Rs 23.85 crore of earnings. At the end of its three-day weekend, ‘Sooryavanshi’ garnered a total of Rs 77.08 crore. These whopping figures have recorded the biggest weekend opening for Akshay Kumar. While this is in India, in the international circuit too, ‘Sooryavanshi’ earned a cumulative total of Rs 24.58 crore. In North America it took in $1,442,390 on 520 screens. Directed by Rohit Shetty and also featuring Katrina Kaif, Ranveer Singh and Ajay Devgn, this movie was to hit the theaters over a year ago, but the pandemic delayed its release. The big weekend proves that audiences were ready for Rohit Shetty’s brand of masala entertainment that’s meant to be experienced in a cinema.
