Shah Rukh Khan has obtained a significant legal victory in a protracted property matter involving his prestigious Mumbai residence, Mannat. The Supreme Court in a ruling delivered on Tuesday rejected a challenge to the environmental approval required for renovations at the oceanfront property. This decision permits Shah Rukh to move forward with his architectural expansion plans, which involve constructing two additional stories on the existing bungalow. The court’s three judge panel led by Chief Justice Surya Kant and including Justices Joymalya Bagchi and V Mohana, determined that there was no basis for judicial review. In their assessment, the judges found “serious doubts over the bona fide” (genuineness) of the petition filed against the project. The foundation of the legal action originated from a National Green Tribunal (NGT) ruling issued in September 2025, when the tribunal’s Pune division confirmed the environmental authorisation that had been granted by the relevant coastal authority, simultaneously dismissing concerns raised by environmental advocate Santosh Daundkar. The activist subsequently escalated the matter to India’s highest court in an attempt to reverse the tribunal’s verdict.
