India’s entertainment industry lost two gems in the form of Sulochana Latkar and Gifu Paintal within a span of two days. Both the veterans died due to age related ailments. While Latkar was 94, Paintal passed away at the age of 79. Latkar worked in films like ‘Mere Jeevan Saathi’, starring Rajesh Khanna, ‘Aap Ki Kasam’, ‘Kora Kagaz’, ‘Majboor’ with Amitabh Bachchan and many other superhits. The actress had also contributed in Marathi cinema and was cremated with full state honours at the Shivaji Park Crematorium in Mumbai. Paintal, on the other hand, debuted with ‘Rafoo Chakkar’ in 1975. He acted in ‘Dillagi’, ‘Des Pardes’ and ‘Suhaag’ among many others but his shot to fame was BR Chopra’s TV serial ‘Mahabharat’ in which he played the character of Shakuni Mama. His inimitable dialogue delivery is what people still remember him for.
