Bollywood’s struggle with dwindling creativity and financial instability has become a widely discussed issue with industry insiders voicing concerns over its uncertain future. Actress Kalki Koechlin has now joined the conversation bluntly stating that “Bollywood is in recession”. Speaking on the Aleena Dissects podcast, she painted a grim picture of the industry’s current state explaining, “‘Recession ho raha hai’… does everyone know that? There is a Bollywood recession, that’s why they are re-releasing everything. There is no content. Whatever they are making is not working… that’s why everything is stalled.” Kalki highlighted that while many within the industry recognize the crisis, they feel powerless to reverse the damage. “From top to bottom I have spoken to people… and at the top, they are like, seven films… crores of money being just spent and they can’t find a platform to release. And now there are smaller actors who haven’t had work in two years,” she added. Her remarks echo sentiments previously expressed by her ex-husband, Anurag Kashyap who has openly criticized Bollywood’s lack of “creative stimulation”. Frustrated by the industry’s stagnation, Kashyap revealed that his decision to shift focus to South Indian cinema was driven by Bollywood’s creative decline.
