The much-anticipated release of ‘The Kerala Story 2’ has run into a major obstacle just before its scheduled premiere on Friday, February 27th. Reports indicate that the Kerala High Court issued an interim stay on Thursday afternoon halting the film’s arrival in theaters. The production team has yet to issue any statement in response to this development. The project has faced criticism for allegedly fostering communal tension and portraying Kerala in a damaging way. During the hearing, the judge remarked, “You are not keen that the Court should watch the movie. You want the issue to be decided on whether this petition is a private litigation or a public litigation.” The film, which unfolds across Kerala, Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh, delves into stories of religious conversion and coercion. Although the creators insist it draws inspiration from real incidents, controversy has surrounded the film since the release of its trailer earlier this month.
