Nag Ashwin’s highly anticipated sci-fi venture ‘Kalki 2898 AD’ featuring a star-studded cast including Prabhas, Deepika Padukone, Amitabh Bachchan and Kamal Haasan, has been generating immense buzz. However, the film’s promotional material has faced some criticism and drawn comparisons to Denis Villeneuve’s Hollywood film ‘Dune’ starring Timothee Chalamet and Zendaya. Director Nag Ashwin addressed these concerns during the VFX Summit in Hyderabad. During the event, a student raised the question of similarities between ‘Kalki 2898 AD’ and ‘Dune’ in terms of theme and artwork. Nag responded with a touch of humour, attributing the resemblance to the presence of sand in both films, “It’s because of the sand,” and added, “Whenever there’s sand, it’ll look like ‘Dune’,” before sharing a laugh with the audience. Earlier some fans noticed resemblances between Deepika Padukone’s appearance in ‘Kalki 2898 AD’ poster and Zendaya’s portrayal of Chani in ‘Dune’ calling it ‘Zendayafication’. The film is postponed to June from its earlier release date of May 9th.
